I am not huge on resolutions, I do feel however that specific goals are imperative to enjoying life. But in the spirit of New Year resolutions I decided to figure out exactly what I want out of my travel life this year and I vow to make them a reality.
#1 STAY LOCAL
Its always thrilling to daydream about flying to Thailand and Brazil, but the last time I checked kayak.com those flights will run you about $1000 plus from New York City. While I save up for the major trips I will spend the weekends exploring all that America has to offer. Weekend trips allow me to grab a cheese steak in Philadelphia or drink on bourbon street in New Orleans will keep the fire for travel inside me alive.
#2 VACAY WITH THE BOO
This is less of a resolution and more of a ritual. Exploring new cities with your girlfriend will help you learn more about her as well as yourself as will definitely be put in an uncomfortable situation at some point. Travel will do that to you. Make sure you guys can travel well together, sooner rather than later.
#3 GUYS TRIP
As much fun as partying and relaxing with your girl can be, a mini bachelor party trip with the fellas once a year is a must before you settle down.
#4 KEEP MY SANITY
This one may be a long shot but I feel a wellness/meditation retreat is much needed. A trip to Red Mountain in Utah will allow me to unplug from technology, re-evaluate my goals, and reenergize my spirit.
On most trips I end up doing something active, be it jet skiing, zip-lining, or hiking the 2,400 ft. Petit Piton in St. Lucia (just wanted to throw that in there) but this year I want to take a trip with the sole purpose being adventure.
Something like a five day kite surfing lesson in Dominican Republic
OR Snowboarding in Whistler, British Colombia
OR Bungee Jump like James Bond at Verzasca dam, Switzerland
any one of these will do.
#6 WINTER ESCAPE
Growing up in New York City you would think that I would be use to this brutal cold. This year I vow to make sure I have enough money for a winter getaway, to somewhere the word ‘Polar Vortex’ does not exist.
I would love to hear your travel resolutions for this year.
