Five Guys…Of Travel

In Uncategorized by Andrew GrahamLeave a Comment

I impulsively rented an apartment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the world cup with five friends this summer. I was skeptical at first because five male egos in one apartment can be explosive…and it was, but being able to gather friends at such short notice is no easy task. These five guys gave me some insight into the different traveler personalities you will run across. (does not apply to just men)

1. THE SPORTS GUY

This guy’s number one priority is to watch the game. He doesn’t care where in the world he is, if the cowboys are playing, he’s in front of a big screen. He ends up missing everything about the location except the game

2. THE BEACH BUM

This character spends HOURS on the beach; Scoping out women, drinking, frolicking. He’s well prepared for all beach activities; from beach towels to portable speakers he’ll keep the party going.
He doesn’t need a hotel, he’s fine spending the night on the beach looking at the moon.

3. THE CHEAPSKATE

Prefers risking street meat than paying for a meal at a restaurant. Would buy a bottle opener to drink all the beer HIS friends bought. He likes to hang out with the beach bum because hey, beach activities are free.

4. THE TOURIST

A sunburnt couple of tourists at the beach

The tourist is up at dawn and ready to see everything, I mean everything. Every church, every stadium, every statue will be posted on his/her facebook page.  He/she has to let everyone in the world know how amazing their trip is. The tourist is good to have around because his phone will be full of translate  and map apps that will be super useful for the group.

5. THE ROOKIE

This guy has not been ANYWHERE. He tries to plan everything in advance, what time to leave for dinner, makes sure we have tickets to the show, makes a reservation for breakfast. He’s so busy planning he misses out on all the adventure the rest of the group is having. I try to stay as far from this guy because I travel for the unknown.

Tag your friend and let him/her know which category they fall in
